Vedic Research Centre

Inauguration of Vedic Research Center by The Honorable former President of India His Excellency Bharatarathnam Dr. A.P.J. Abdulkalam

Vadakke Madham Brahmaswam popularly known as “Brahmaswam Madham” is one among the four Madhams established by four disciples of Adi Sankaracharya at Thrissur, Kerala, India.

This institution is known for its imparting classes in RIGVEDA, YAJURVEDA and SAMAVEDA in the Gurukula system, following the rigorous methodology to preserve the age old Vedic chanting by heart (HRIDISTHAM) which has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible heritage of mankind.
The different streams of knowledge like scientific heritage of India, history, philosophy, religious studies, mythology, psychology and cultural studies are enshrined in Vedas, which are to be identified and developed.  All these are to be addressed by detailed research, investigation and evaluation. This is the key factor that kindled the idea of setting up a Vedic Research Centre.

The aim of “VADAKKE MADHAM BRAHMASWAM VEDIC RESEARCH CENTRE” is to work in the field of different knowledge systems of India, to reveal the essence of wisdom enshrined in the Vedas and to propagate it for the benefit of mankind.

OBJECTIVES:
  •  It is our VISION that Vadakke Madham Brahmaswam is to become a well known “VEDIC UNIVERISTY”( Viswavidyalaya of Vedas) in the days to come, as a centre of ancient knowledge with modern vision. In this background, the following broad objectives are targeted:
  •  To promote and propagate the Vedas for the understanding of the common man irrespective of cast, creed and gender.
  • To conduct programmes such as workshops, seminars, discourses, classes, and short term courses aimed at imparting knowledge of the Vedas and spreading its awareness among the widest possible populace.
  •  To set up a Research Centre for the study of Vedas and probe various knowledge systems hidden in the Vedas and corroborate the findings with modern knowledge.
  • To establish a library aimed at collecting and preserving all available Vedic books, manuscripts, print form, palm leaf form, digital and in any other available forms.
  • To undertake research work jointly with other national and international research centers and socially relevant institutions and carry out research projects on Veda and indology.
  •  To do everything whatsoever for the enrichment of the Vedas and all other subjects related to indology in the formal or informal sector and to ensure effective implementation and success of all the activities undertaken.
  •  To manage endowments and grant scholarships and other assistances for pursuit of primary, secondary and higher studies to meritorious or the deserving needy, poor and socially backward students.
  • To honour illustrious and eminent personalities who have made outstanding contributions to Vedas or any spheres of knowledge or human life.
  • To preserve and promote the traditional style of Vedic chanting and preservation techniques of Vedas, especially that of Kerala.

PROJECTS ALREADY COMMENCED:
  •  H’ble Former President of India, Bharatharatnam Dr. A.P.J.Aabdul Kalam, inaugurated the Building for Vadakke Madham Brahmaswam Vedic Research Centre, on 10th November, 2008. It was on account of the untainted support of late E.CHANDRASEKHARAN of Manava Seva Trust that we could realize our dream of having a good building for Vedic Research Centre, in the heart of the city at Thrissur.
  • A library with more than 1000 books and manuscripts has been already set up.
  •  Monthly discourses on various subjects related to Vedas by eminent scholars are being conducted.
  •  National Seminars and workshops are being conducted with the financial assistance from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, IGNCA  etc.
  • Short term awareness courses aimed at introducing Veda to Common people are being conducted.
  • A monthly magazine, “VEDADHWANI” is published with articles on Vedas and related topics.
  • A website, www.brahmaswammadham.org is made online.
  • Books related to Vedic studies are being published.

FUTURE ACTICTIVITIES PROPOSED·
  •   Publishing of books on Vedic knowledge and Indian culture co-related with modern thoughts.
  • Audio and video recording of the whole Vedas and publication of its CDs and DVDs.
  • Conducting short term courses on the content of Vedic texts, traditional teaching methods and preservation techniques of Vedas- particularly Kerala Vedic tradition, ritual tradition of Vedas and the like.
  • Conducting National seminar once in a year and International seminar once in two years on Vedic subjects.
  • Collection of palm leaf manuscripts and digitization of the same for perseverance.

We appeal to general public, the industrialists and business community to come forward and help us to implement our programmes.

The successful accomplishment of the decoding of the coded language of Veda will certainly open up the vast fields of knowledge for the benefit of the Public. Different knowledge systems found in the Vedic texts are to be co-related with similar modern systems of knowledge in a useful way.
