Appeal

AN  APPEAL TO ALL PHILANTHROPISTS TO DONATE LIBERALLY TO THE
VEDA SAMRAKSHANA NIDHI (A FUND FOR PRESERVING THE VEDAS)
FOR SAFEGUARDING THE VEDAS AND ITS SCIENTIFIC CHANTING.

Vadakke Madham Brahmaswam, Thrissur in Kerala is one of the most ancient Vedic Institutions in India, established by Sri. Hasthamalakacharya, a direct disciple Sree Sankaracharya, for propagating and promoting Adwaitha Vedantha Philosophy.  About four hundred years ago the then Swamiji, who was the Head of the Institution could not find a suitable successor and the institution ceased to be a monastery and was converted later into a Vedic Maha Vidyalaya.
Till about 1950 A.D. the educational pattern of Brahmaswam Madham was to provide higher studies in Veda like Pada, Krama, Jata, Ratha to students who had completed Samhitha portion of Rgveda in their home. During 1950’s the residential Veda Vidyalaya has taken the responsibility of teaching Samhitha portions also, which itself will take four and half years to complete. A Vedic Teacher/ Veda Guru can teach a maximum of four students only at a time. The working hours of the Veda Padhasala start from 5 a.m. Subsequently, in the changed circumstances parallel to Vedic Studies, academic education is also provided to the students which helps them to acquire professional qualifications and better employment opportunities, without diluting the traditional system of Gurukula style of learning of the Veda.  In 2006 besides Rgveda, teaching of Yajurveda and Samaveda also was started. At present there are 34 students and 10 teachers excluding office staff and other employees. This is the only institution in Kerala where all the three Vedas are taught in traditional Kerala Style without the help of any books. The unique Kerala Style of Vedic Chanting is appreciated globally.  We are providing accommodation, food, cloth and education, free to all the students. With the blessings of Vedamoorthy Venugopala of our temple inside the premises, we are able to provide our students comfortable living conditions.
During the regime of the Maharaja of Kochi Brahmaswam Madham had enormous wealth. Due to the changes of the policies of the then governments, financial position of Madham started deteriorating. To be frank, now Brahmaswam Madham has to depend on the benevolent people and the business community for its day to day functioning. By introducing an Annadana endowment we were able to collect some fund with which we are feeding the students of the Vidyalaya. We find it very difficult to maintain the centuries old buildings to retain its proud heritage. Now the administration of Madham is controlled by a committee of five members elected from the general body once in three years as per the democratic process.
But, the main problem we are facing at present is our inability to attract eminent scholars as teachers, since we are unable to pay them a decent salary. In order to overcome this situation we have decided to build a Veda Samrakshana Nidhi by approaching at least 500 generous patrons requesting each to contribute a sum of Rupees one lakh( $ 2500). This amount will be deposited in a separate account and the interest accrued will be used exclusively for the purpose stated above, that is to pay a decent salary of the Veda Gurus.  More students are coming forward to learn the Vedas. Due to financial problems, we are unable to admit all of them as more teachers have to be appointed.
We therefore appeal to you to be kind enough to donate the maximum financial help towards Veda Samrakshana Nidhi and become a Veda Smarakshaka and participate in this noble Yagna of protecting, preserving and supporting the Vedas -Masterpieces of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity- and their chanting in pristine purity which is found only in the traditional Kerala style.
The donors can also ear mark this amount for performing a ritual, in memory of your beloveds on a specific day, duly informing the details.
We are furnishing here below the details of the Bank Account for transfer of funds.
1. Name of the Beneficiary: BRAHMASWAM COMMITTEE, 2. Bank Name: STATE BANK OF INDIA, 3. Branch Name: SIB BRANCH, THRISSUR (7479), 4. Account No.: 1024421999-6, 5. IFSC Code: SBIN0007479

You are also wholeheartedly invited to visit Vadakke Madham Brahmaswam, Thrissur, the ancient holy place in the cultural capital of Kerala and experience the attractive Kerala style of Vedic chanting by our students.

May the Vedamoorthy bless you all.
